Co-Exist
This duo got together to create their own project, Hip Hop mixed with writing, turntable scratching skills of ´DJ Marksman´ and rapping and production skills of ´J Bravo´
Thanks to the likes of Roots Manuva, Mark B and Blade and other emerging artists, projects and labels, the UK Hip Hop scene now as its own sound, thus helping grass roots artist such as Co-Exist gain further recognition and exposure.
"Our music backgrounds come from Hip Hop so we feel the need to come out with our own sound and vibe, mixing the old skool and nu skool vibes together with our own ideas"
Co-Exist Review - Traffic Magazine (Issue 11)
J Bravo – "Live Inner Place" @ Carpe Diem, Leeds, 30 April 2008
J Bravo is a veteran of the Yorkshire rap scene, a member of both Invizible Circle and Northern Hostility and the proud owner of one of the most distinctive lyrical flows in the North of England. His style is rooted in grimy, old-to-mid-school East Coast hip-hop but the way he rhymes has everything to do with J´s own personality and lifestyle.
His latest live appearance was to promote his collaboration with Denmark own DJ Marksman under the name ´Co-exist´ – the pair have an album called Co–Exhibition forthcoming and a mix-tape version is currently doing the rounds, ably cut up by DJ Prolific
Joining them were Bravo´s crew C.A.G (Cover All Grounds) – K–One, J–Mill and Dreadman. The live show itself was well worth checking, although it fell somewhat short of what I know J to be capable of. On the whole the four MCs did a good job of wringing some life out of the venues weedy sound system and Marksman held it down despite regularly cursing the cheap Tascam CD players he was forced to use.
A definite highlight was the live interpretation of ´Broken Soul´, which was performed acapella except for a harmonica player – a brave departure from convention and one that says a lot about J Bravo´s attitude. That track, and the night as a whole, was less than perfectly executed but nonetheless fresh and interesting.
One can only hope that the album when it comes will bring Co–Exist the attention they deserve
